The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

I recently read Neil Gaiman’s book, The Graveyard Book, (five years too late according to everyone I mention this to) which was, generally speaking, a great read–until I got about halfway through and someone told me that it was based off of Rudyard Kipling’s, Jungle Book stories. Two things happened at this point which diminished my experience. One, I was ticked that I wasn’t astute enough to recognize the obvious parallel and, two: all I could do from that point forward was try and figure out which characters in Gaiman’s book were equivalent to Kipling’s characters. Drat!! All the Silas is Bagheera and Bod is Mowgli and who is this and that is this…blerf. Despite all my whining, it really is a great book.
